Boardman doubles team finishes 2nd at sectional
CANTON — The unseeded Boardman High School girls doubles team of sisters Annie and Carolyn Jesko defeated top-seeded Canfield’s Lauren Sulick and Christina Brant in a Division I sectional tournament semifinal match Saturday at Weis Park.
The scores were 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.
The Boardman girls were then beaten by Jackson High’s Loni Dickerhoof and Tricia Conlan 6-1, 6-4 in the championship match.
The Jackson, Boardman, Canfield and Green doubles teams advance to Thursday’s District tennis tournment at Oberlin College.
In singles competition, Emily Abraham of Boardman was eliminated by Jasmine Lee of Canton GlenOak, 6-0, 6-0 in a quarterfinal match.
Division II sectional
CANFIELD — Top seeded Mariah Mostardi of Ravenna defeated Alyssa Tom of Poland for the Division II singles title at the Canfield High tennis courts.
Scores were 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.
Marissa Nocera of Warren JFK defeated Gabriele Brocker of Poland, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 for third place.
Megan Bennett and Jessica Mullins of Poland defeated Jaclyn DiDomenico and Allie St. George of Mooney 6-3, 7-5 for the doubles championship.
Alison Rossi and Gina Fredericka of Warren JFK topped Alexa Marino and Danielle Mullis of Poland (6-2, 3-6, 6-1) for third place.
The top four singles players and doubles teams advance to district competition this week in Canton.
