Mount Union 44, Ohio Northern 0

ADA — Mount Union (5-0, 4-0 OAC) went on the road and defeated ninth-ranked Ohio Northern (4-1, 3-1 OAC) 44-0 in front of a Dial-Roberson Stadium record crowd of 5,177 fans. The Raiders struck on their opening possession as Wray scored his first rushing touchdown of the year on a 60-yard scamper. On its next possession, Mount Union’s offense recorded another touchdown run by fullback Terrance Morring, to put the Raiders up 14-0. After the Polar Bears regained possession following a Raider fumble, Northern failed to convert on a fake punt attempt setting up the Purple & White deep in Polar Bear territory. Kmic followed with a 3-yard touchdown run putting Mount Union up 21-0. On its next possession, after a three-and-out, the Polar Bears lined up in punt formation, but the snap sailed over the punter’s head and out of the end zone for a safety — making the score 23-0 Raiders. Halfway through the second quarter, Raiders safety Craig Nickoli recovered a Polar Bear fumble in Northern territory to set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Wray, giving the Raiders a 30-0 halftime lead. The third quarter was highlighted by Wray’s third and fourth touchdown scores of the game, safety Matt Kostelnik’s ninth career interception, and a blocked punt by safety Chris Kappas, who also had a team-best eight hits on the day. Mount Union quarterback Greg Micheli finished 18-of-26 for 207 yards passing. Kmic amassed 96 yards rushing on 17 touches and one score while Wray had 82 yards on eight carries to go with his four rushing scores. Terrance Morring added 63 yards on 10 carries and one touchdown. Wide receiver Brandon Boehm set a personal season-high six catches for 55 yards. The Polar Bears were paced by five receptions each from wide receivers Ben Wittwer (5/70 yds) and David Delk (5/42 yds). Quarterback Jeff Pankratz completed 13-of-31 for 133 yards. Defensively for the Raiders, end Joseph Millings led the charge recording a career-best three sacks and two forced fumbles in the shutout win. Overall, the Raiders had 526 yards of offense to 136 for the Polar Bears. Mount Union’s defense, for the third time this season, held a team to negative rushing yards. Ohio Northern had minus-9 yards on the ground in the contest. The Raiders were plus-2 in turnovers on the day. “The key to our defense is our quickness,” Raiders coach Larry Kehres said. “Our guys got after it today and played hard from sideline to sideline.”

Grove City 36, Bethany 15

GROVE CITY, Pa. — Ian Tobin rushed for two short touchdowns as Grove City won its sixth straight home game against Bethany. Andrew DiDonato ran 16 times for 77 yards and completed 13 of 21 passes for 190 yards to lead Grove City (2-4, 2-2 Presidents’ Athletic Conference). After DiDonato found Stephen Mercer for a 12-yard touchdown completion, Tobin banged in from the 3 for a 12-0 lead. Marcus Santini ran for a 3-yard touchdown as Bethany (2-3, 0-2) cut the lead to 12-7 at the break. In the third quarter Bethany knotted the game at 15 when Milton Joyner hit Matt Cruse with a 49-yard touchdown strike. DiDonato, Tobin and Baker added late touchdowns for Grove City. Santini gained 151 yards on 21 carries and Joyner was 17-for-34 for 193 yards for Bethany. Bethany accumulated 445 yards total offense, while the Wolverines amassed 396 yards.

Kenyon 49, Hiram 21

HIRAM — Harry von Kann caught six passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns covering 28 and 30 yards to lead Kenyon (2-3, 1-1). Carlin Shoemake added nine receptions for 108 yards and a 41-yard scoring aerial as two Kenyon quarterbacks combined to complete 17 of 24 attempts for 367 yards. Hiram (0-5, 0-2) yielded three touchdowns in the third quarter after falling behind 14-7 after one quarter and 28-14 at the break. Steven Hammond ran for a 3-yard touchdown in the first quarter and Glenn Campbell pulled in a 32-yard scoring pass from Trevor Henderson just before the half for Hiram. Henderson hit on 15 of 30 passes for 168 yards and Campbell caught eight balls for 115 yards. Curtis Williams ran 11 times for 68 yards to lead Hiram.

Slippery Rock 31, East Stroudsburg 24

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — Ryan Lehmeier ran for 229 yards and two touchdowns, and Damarcus Cleckley’s 1-yard run at the end of the third quarter was the difference in Slippery Rock’s victory. Lehmeier carried 27 times and had scoring runs of 26 yards in the second quarter and 47 in the third for the Warriors (5-1). Cleckley picked up 109 yards on 19 carries. Nate Crookshank threw a 25-yard scoring pass to Colin Golden, and C.J. Bahr added an 18-yard field goal in the victory. East Stroudsburg’s Tim Roken threw for 236 yards and two touchdowns, finding Drew Stem for a 16-yard score in the first quarter and Doug Ogden with a 7-yard strike with 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Roken finished 17-for-32 and also scored on a 4-yard scamper. Greg Knauss added a 42-yard field goal in the loss for ESU (1-4).

Washington & Jefferson 28, Thiel 20

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Bobby Swallow threw for 230 yards and three touchdowns as Washington & Jefferson beat Thiel. Swallow (West Branch High) had touchdown passes of 10, 57 and 22 yards, including two to Tom McCafferty. Kevin Mathews rushed for 72 yards on 14 carries and scored a touchdown for Washington & Jefferson (5-0, 1-0 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference). Thiel (2-4, 1-2) had a 6-0 lead going into the second quarter from two Sammy Koyl field goals. But Swallow threw touchdowns to Craig Besong and McCafferty to give the Presidents a 14-6 lead at the half. After a scoreless third quarter, Thiel cut the lead to 14-12 when quarterback Marc LaScola ran in from 7 yards out, but the subsequent two-point conversion attempt failed. LaScola passed for 113 yards on 38 attempts and also rushed for 84 yards. The Presidents scored twice more in the fourth quarter.

Wabash 28, Allegheny 20

MEADVILLE, Pa. — Matt Hudson threw two touchdown passes to propel Wabash. Hudson completed 16 of 23 passes for 129 yards. He connected with Ray Green on a 15-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, and with Bart Banach on a 9-yard scoring pass in the third quarter. Wabash (5-0, 3-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference) came into the game ranked No. 15 in NCAA Division II. The Little Giants also scored on a 15-yard run by C.P. Porter and a 19-yard run by Evan Sobecki. Allegheny (3-2, 1-1) scored on a 5-yard run by Devin Raynor, a 4-yard run by T.J. Salopek, and a 1-yard run by Rodney Still.
