Spooktacular time set for Childrens Museum on Oct. 13

YOUNGSTOWN — Children’s Museum of the Valley will have its second annual Halloween Spooktacular on Saturday from noon until 5 p.m.

It’s free. Kids ages 2-12 are invited to dress in costume and trick-or-treat in the museum, 139 E. Boardman Street (across from the downtown Post Office).

Fifteen local nonprofit organizations will pass out candy to children and provide information to adults regarding community resources for families. An adult must accompany children.

Though exhibit galleries will close for the festivities, several Halloween-themed activities will take place on Boardman Street, which will be closed between Champion and Walnut Streets. The museum will provide the following fun activities:

•Spaghetti painting with Café Cimmento.

•Mask making sponsored by the museum.

•Face painting.

•Halloween-themed carnival games sponsored by students from Youngstown State University’s Honors program.

•Mad Science sponsored by local teachers.

•Flubber demonstrations on the hour.

•Costumed characters.

The Organization for Bat Conservation will visit the museum for a second year, and with two live bat presentations scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m. Local magician John Steven Bloom will present at 2 and 4. The Singing Art Teacher will lead children in a musical program between the bat and magic shows.
