Pa. Governor’s Schools program taking applications from teens
GROVE CITY, Pa — Application forms for the 2008 Pennsylvania Governor’s Schools of Excellence are available in Pennsylvania public and nonpublic high schools.
The five-week long summer residential programs for high school students take place on Pennsylvania college campuses with tuition, room and board, classroom materials and program activities underwritten by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for students who are selected to participate.
Selection is meritorious and highly competitive.
The eight programs are: Pennsylvania Governor’s Schools for the Arts, for the Agricultural Sciences, for Global Entrepreneurship, for Health Care, for International Studies, for the Sciences, for Teaching and for Information, Society and Technology.
The program offers academically achieving or artistically talented students a living/learning community in which they pursue their areas of interest with master teachers who are practitioners in their fields.
Application deadlines are in January and February.
Eligibility depends on full-time state residency by at least one parent or legal guardian, and grade level specifications set by each of the schools.
Students residing in Mercer, Lawrence and Butler counties can contact Virginia Moore at (724) 458-6700, ext. 249 for details.
