Chaney cheerleading coach has day in court

YOUNGSTOWN — Angela J. Jones might lose her job as the Chaney High School freshmen cheerleading coach, based on comments made in municipal court during her video arraignment.

She is not a teacher.

Bret Hartup, assistant city prosecutor, told Judge Elizabeth A. Kobly on Friday that Chaney wants Jones to stay away, having no contact with school. He said her continued employment is in question.

While police were using pepper spray to disperse a crowd of 400 CHS students who were starting to fight on Thursday, Jones was arrested on charges of felonious assault on a police officer and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and inducing panic.

Jones, 38, of East Avondale Avenue will be back in court Oct. 19 for a preliminary hearing on the felony and pretrial hearing on the misdemeanor charges. The judge set her bond set at $3,000 and ordered that she have no contact with Chaney — and if she does, she will forfeit her bond.
