Two guards killed in Philly armored car heist


PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Three armored car guards were shot, two of them fatally, in a robbery attempt outside a Northeast Philadelphia bank early today, police said.

Two men and two women were trying to rob the vehicle outside a Wachovia bank when the shootings occurred shortly after 8 a.m., Lt. Frank Vanore said.

One guard was pronounced dead at the scene about 10 minutes later, police said. The second a short time later, while the third suffered a graze wound.

One male suspect fled on foot and the other fled in a car; it was not immediately known how the two female suspects escaped, police said.
