Newborn baby was left on couple’s doorstep
SHARON, Pa. — Linda Mims and her husband returned home from grocery shopping to discover that a newborn baby had been left near their doorstep.
“It never dawned on me that a baby could be left here,” Linda Mims said pointing to the second step of a darkened stairwell of the duplex at 109 S. Irvine St.
The Mims left home at 2 p.m. Wednesday. When they arrived back shortly after 5 p.m., the mother of their upstairs neighbor was on the porch holding something.
“We heard it whimpering and thought it was a cat,” Mims said.
It was a newborn baby girl wrapped in a gray windbreaker.
The baby was taken by police to an area hospital for observation and is now in the custody of Mercer County Children and Youth Services.
