Independent film series to feature ‘The War Tapes’
THE VINDICATOR
STRUTHERS — Youngstown Film will inaugurate a monthly independent film series next week when it shows “The War Tapes” in the Cabaret Room of Selah Restaurant, 130 S. Bridge St. The film will be screened at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 11.
“The War Tapes” is a 2006 documentary on the Iraq War. It chronicles the stories of three American soldiers who were given cameras at the beginning of their tours of duty and were asked to record their experiences. The film also follows the three home as they try to reconstruct their lives. “The War Tapes” is not so much an indictment of the Bush ad ministration as it is a study of the futility of war as an instrument of policy.
Future films include“Dracula” and “Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein,” Oct. 25; “Small Town Gay Bar”/“Out in the Heartland,” Nov. 8; and “Network,” Nov. 15. All films start at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $5.
In conjunction with the film series, Selah is offering a special in which ticket-holders who eat at the restaurant before the film receive a half-price entree with the purchase of an entree.
