Boys skip school and mess with canoes
YOUNGSTOWN — Three boys, 12, 13 and 14, who should have been in school, were seen by Mill Creek Park visitors tampering with canoes at the East Newport boat landing. Police, who caught up with the students, one from East High School and two from Alpha School of Excellence for Boys, around 10:40 a.m. Tuesday were told they’d “missed the bus.” A call to the school patrol, asking if they wanted the juveniles, resulted in a negative response. The boys were then told to leave the park and advised a juvenile officer would be in touch. A check at the landing revealed a green canoe in water south of the parking lot and maintenance was called to retrieve it.
