Salem names new police sergeant

SALEM — Police Sgt. Frank Dumovic retired effective Sunday after 29 years with the Salem Police Department.

Dumovic had been serving as the sergeant on the department’s afternoon shift.

Chief Robert Floor said Tuesday that Patrolman Charles Shafer was named the new sergeant as of Monday.

Shafer has been with the department for 16 years. He is working as the afternoon shift sergeant.

Floor said that a new officer will soon be named to the force.
