NILES — Girl Scouts of North East Ohio named Daisy L. Alford-Smith as their first chief executive officer.

Five regional Girl Scout councils realigned into one new council that is based in Akron and serves 45,00 girls and 15,000 adult volunteer members throughout an 18-county region.

Alford-Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the State University of New York; a master’s in technical education from the University of Akron; and a doctorate in urban education from Cleveland State University.

She most recently served as the chief operating officer with the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools and the International Commission on Health Care Professions in Pennsylvania.

She served six years as director of Summit County Department of Job and Family Services.

“The realignment is more than jurisdictional and personnel changes. It’s all about the girls and preparing them to be tomorrow’s leaders,” she said.

More sex charges

YOUNGSTOWN — More sex-related charges have been filed against Daniel Tatarciuc, a 56-year-old Glenwood Avenue businessman.

Tatarciuc was arraigned Monday in municipal court on two counts of sexual imposition. He will be back in court Oct. 24 for a pretrial.

He is accused of pinching the buttocks of a 15-year-old boy who was working for him at Paul’s Grocery, 1133 Glenwood, on Sept. 13. Tatarciuc, who has a small trailer behind the store, was arrested there around 3:15 a.m. Sunday.

Tatarciuc already has a sexual imposition case pending in municipal court that involves a woman who worked for him at the convenience store.

He has similar charges pending in Struthers Municipal Court that involve two Campbell women, a customer and a job hunter, who encountered him at a 12th Street restaurant in Campbell that he operated.
