URSULINE LIVE |Irish lose, 20-14

A topsy-turvy fourth quarter ended with Ursuline falling, 20-14 in the Division V state title.

Trailing 14-7, the Irish’s luck appeared to turn in the fourth quarter when Luke Holman took the handoff then ran into defender Justin Brown’s arms.

Brown stripped the ball and caught the popped pigskin at about the Marion Local 47. Brown raced to the end zone to cut the deficit to 14-13. Michael Metzinger’s kick tied the game.

With 6:28 to go, Marion Local’s Dan Fortkamp lined up for a 28-yard field goal attempt. Brown broke through the line and blocked the boot, preserving the 14-14 tie.

Less than a minute later, the Irish were behind the eight-ball again when McQueen’s third-down pass was batted and intercepted by Luke Bertke. Bertke’s 19-yard return broke the tie. Fortkamp missed the conversion kick, keeping the score at 20-14.

But the Irish were unable to convert on their final possession.
