Ursuline live | Third quarter notes

Say this for Ursuline coach Dan Reardon -- he’s not playing scared.

The Irish opened up the second half with an onside kick and Dale Peterman recovered. Alas, three plays netted minus-2 yards and the Irish punted.

Neither team is doing anything fancy offensively. The two defenses are too good to break a big play. Problem is, Ursuline’s defense can’t find a way to get off the field. Marion Local is moving the ball methodically, doing just enough.

One key note. Marion Local has committed itself to not getting beat by Ursuline sophomore defensive end Jamel Turner, who has been doubled teamed quite a bit. Turner is a disruptive force, but the Flyers have avoided disaster so far.

Ursuline, meanwhile, is finally starting to have some success on the ground with quarterback Lamar McQueen finding some holes. His speed and quickness is giving the Flyers fits. His only weakness is that at 5-9, 165, he’s not strong enough to break many tackles.

At the end of three quarters, it’s still 14-7, but the Irish are driving. They have a first down at the Marion Local 27.
