Police arrest suspect in burglary
BOARDMAN — Police arrested a Youngstown man suspected in a burglary stemming from a Southern Boulevard home invasion.
Less than two hours after a Southern Boulevard woman reported two men kicking in the door of her home late Wednesday morning, police had identified one of the suspects, CharzellCalhoun, 21, of Glenwood Avenue, and issued a warrant for his arrest.
Township police and members of the U.S. Marshal’s Service Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested Calhoun on Thursday at the Eastwood Village Apartments on Youngstown’s northeast side where he had been hiding out with his girlfriend. Calhoun is in Mahoning County Jail.
Police are looking for the second man.
“Home invasions are a dangerous and serious crime because the house is inhabited when the suspects break in,” said Chief Patrick Berarducci. “From there, it doesn’t take much to go from bad to worse. This victim did the absolute right thing; she hid from view in her closet and called police on her cell phone.”
It was the second time the home had been a target of the burglary team. The first burglary took place last week when the house was empty. The suspects took electronic games and other items in both crimes.
