Marinelli out at TV33, others unclear

YOUNGSTOWN — Employees are being laid off today at WYTV Channel 33, but it’s unclear how many.

Gina Marinelli, a news anchor, said she wasn’t being retained, and sources at the station said anchor Vince Bevacqua also is being let go. He could not be reached.

Jeff Necko, a union president at WYTV, couldn’t be reached for comment. Doug Beach, union vice president, said he is being laid off but added that a severance pay agreement prohibits employees from commenting.

Two WYTV reporters said they were being retained. They said a total number of layoffs wasn’t given because workers were being notified individually through notices in their paychecks.

Dave Trabert, WYTV general manager, referred questions to Todd Parkin, owner of Parkin Broadcasting in Los Angeles. He couldn’t be reached for comment.

Parkin recently bought the Youngstown station but signed an agreement for WKBN-TV Channel 27 to produce newscasts for Channel 33 out of its building in Boardman.
