Quakers top W.B.; Spartans fall in OT


Boardman senior Courtney Schiffauer was out with the flu against Solon.

BELOIT — The Salem High girls basketball team outscored West Branch 8-5 in overtime to post its second straight victory, 52-49 on Wednesday.

Katie Scullion led the Quakers with 18 points while her sister Amy added 12 and Kelly Roelen scored 13.

Amanda Stiffler led the Warriors (1-2) with a game-high 26 points. Salem outrebounded the Warriors 23-19 with Amy Scullion getting 10.

Solon 49, Boardman 37 (OT)

BOARDMAN — Playing with out the services of Courtney Schiffauer was significant as Boardman fell in overtime.

Schiffauer did not play due to the flu.

Erin Wisner had a game-high 15 points for Solon (2-0), while Darryce Moore tossed in 14 points for the Spartans (2-1). After a 37-37 regulation finish, Boardman failed to score in the extra session.

Without Schiffauer, Boardman’s only other senior in the lineup was Danielle Williams, who added five points.

Mathews 41,
Youngstown Christian 28

VIENNA — Youngstown Christian took a 14-8 lead, then Mathews’ defense shut down Kristi Cooper and outscored the Eagles, 33-14.

Jill Armetrout’s 11 points paced Mathews (3-0).

Cooper, a sophomore, finished with eight points. Teammate Chelsey Tate, a senior, had nine rebounds and seven points, while Rashida Strozier also had seven for Youngstown Christian (1-3). Kara Cooper, seven points shy of 1,000, did not dress. The senior is resting a knee.

Columbiana 51, Alliance 42

COLUMBIANA — Jenn Gross scored eight of her 10 points in the final quarter to lead Columbiana to a 19-4 scoring advantage in that period for a come-from-behind victory.

Katie Witmer had 13 points and Katie Douglas 11 to also pace the Clippers (1-1), who trailed by 38-34 after three quarters.

Arreona Gattis had 10 points and Shantana Thomas nine for Alliance.

Sebring 46, Malvern 27

SEBRING — Jill Bragg had 13 points and 12 rebounds to lead Sebring past Malvern.

Julia Grimsley led the Trojans with 14 points and added six rebounds, while Megan Allcorn came up with nine points and nine rebounds.

Kristin Murray led Malvern with 12 points.

Minerva 45, United 32

HANOVERTON — Brooke Presnar tossed in 21 points and Minerva shot nearly 50 percent from the field to roll past United.

Maggie Sell paced United with 10 points.

Southeast 46, Ravenna 38

RAVENNA — Mya Levels scored 14 points and Erikka Coontz added 11 including three 3-point goals as Southeast toppled Ravenna.

Chanel Berry led Ravenna with 10 points.
