NHL ROUNDUP Wednesday’s games

Blues 4, Sabres 3

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Brad Boyes broke a tie with 58 seconds left, and Manny Legace made 20 saves for streaking St. Louis. Mike Johnson and Paul Kariya each had a goal and assist, Martin Rucinsky also scored, and Boyes added an assist for St. Louis. The Blues have won three straight and seven of their last eight games. Jason Pominville, Ales Kotalik and Andrej Sekera scored for Buffalo. The loss snapped the Sabres’ winning streak at five. The Sabres are winless in their last 11 games against St. Louis — including eight loses in regulation — and haven’t beaten the Blues at home in more than 12 years. Boyes’ notched his fourth winner of the season, banging home his own rebound after Sabres forward Daniel Paille stopped the original shot that was headed into the net.

Islanders 3, Senators 2, SO

UNIONDALE, N.Y. — Mike Sillinger scored the go-ahead goal in the third period and then added the winner in the shootout to help New York snap an eight-game losing streak against Ottawa. New York led 2-1 after the teams traded goals early in the third, but the Senators appeared set to continue their dominance over the Islanders when defenseman Andrej Meszaros scored his second of the game with 1:55 left in regulation. Rick DiPietro sealed New York’s first shootout win of the season when he gloved Dean McAmmond’s drive in the sixth round of the tiebreaker.

Devils 4, Stars 2

NEWARK, N.J. — Dainius Zubrus scored with 9:03 to play to help New Jersey win its fifth straight and end Dallas’ winning streak at six. David Clarkson and Brian Gionta also scored, and the Devils overcame two early miscues by goalie Martin Brodeur in preventing the Stars from matching their franchise record for consecutive wins. Zach Parise added an empty-net goal. Stu Barnes and Jussi Jokinen benefited from Brodeur’s early generosity in staking Dallas to a 2-0 lead, but the goalie was outstanding in the final two periods in finishing with 19 saves.

Panthers 2, Capitals 1, SO

WASHINGTON — Florida goalie Tomas Vokoun was superb in a long shootout after stopping 32 shots in regulation, leading the Panthers to their fourth straight victory. Florida improved to 3-0 in shootouts this season. It was the Capitals’ first shootout this season; they went 1-11 in shootouts in 2006-07. Stephen Weiss beat Capitals goalie Olie Kolzig in the 11th round of the shootout, and Vokoun then stopped defenseman Brian Pothier’s attempt, ending the game. The Capitals and are 2-1-1 under interim head coach Bruce Boudreau, who replaced the fired Glen Hanlon last week. Chris Clark scored in regulation for Washington, and Richard Zednik countered for Florida. Capitals star Alex Ovechkin failed to earn a point, ending his nine-game scoring streak.

Flyers 3, Hurricanes 1

RALEIGH, N.C. — Mike Knuble had a goal and two assists, and Martin Birton made 40 saves for Philadelphia. Derian Hatcher and Kimmo Timonen added second-period goals, and Mike Richards had two assists for the Flyers in their second win in Carolina in a week. Cory Stillman scored for Carolina.
