Dominion Resources seeks
to add nuclear reactor

RICHMOND, Va. — Energy company Dominion Resources Inc. has filed an application to build an additional nuclear reactor at its North Anna Power Station, company executives said Wednesday, making the energy company the third to seek federal regulators’ permission to build a new nuclear reactor.

Richmond-based Dominion said it was trying to keep up with consumer electricity needs.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission last week approved an early site permit for the new reactor at the power station in Louisa County, about 60 miles north of Richmond, which already has two reactors. The NRC’s decision allowed the Richmond-based company to complete preliminary site work.

AMR Corp. plans to sell
American Eagle airline

DALLAS — The parent of American Airlines said Wednesday it plans to sell or spin off its American Eagle regional carrier next year. Its shares rose more than 7 percent.

Investors have been pressing AMR Corp. to sell the regional airline and other assets, moves they say could raise money and lift AMR’s stock price.

American Airlines is the nation’s biggest airline. The industry has been under pressure from record fuel prices. But AMR has posted six straight profitable quarters as planes were fuller and passengers paid higher average fares.
