Mixed reaction for Mahoning Valley home sales

Mahoning County home sellers had a pretty good month in October, but sellers in Trumbull and Columbiana counties fared worse.

Home sales numbers and the average selling prices have been down consistently this year because of local economic struggles and a slump in the national housing market.

Last month’s numbers in Mahoning County nearly matched those from October 2006, however.

The county recorded 180 homes sold last month, compared with 184 in the same month last year, a decline of 2 percent. The average selling price was down 1 percent at $96,400.

Trumbull County reported much larger declines.

The number of home sales dropped to 141 last month, an 18 percent decline from 173 in October 2006. The average selling price last month was $87,540, an 11 percent decline from the same month last year.

In Columbiana County, home sales were down 10 percent last month to 55. The average selling price of $82,959 was 11 percent lower than the same month last year.

The numbers for the three counties were reported by the Youngstown Columbiana Association of Realtors.
