“Christmas in Rockefeller Center” (8 p.m., NBC): “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” invites viewers to New York City to take part in the 75th annual tree-lighting gala. Al Roker is our host for the evening, which features performances by Celine Dion, Josh Groban, Taylor Swift, Ashley Tisdale and Carrie Underwood.
“Shrek the Halls” (8 p.m., ABC): The fun-loving, full-bellied, flatulent ogre returns for a new animated holiday special based on the popular big-screen trilogy that bears his name. Just as Shrek is settling in for a low-key Christmas in the swamp with Fiona, a few unexpected guests arrive in the form of Donkey, Puss in Boots and the Gingerbread Man. Predictably, chaos ensues. Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy and Antonio Banderas reprise their voicing roles from the “Shrek” movies. Following at 8:30 p.m., another green holiday grump makes an appearance in “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”
“Great Performances: Eric Clapton” (8 p.m., PBS): Musician Eric Clapton headlines an all-star roster in a performance at Chicago’s Crossroads Guitar Festival. Appearing with Clapton in the concert (taped July 28) are B.B. King, Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, John Mayer, Jeff Beck and Buddy Guy, among others. Comedian Bill Murray hosts, wearing costumes that pay tribute to Clapton’s career with the Yardbirds, Cream, Derek and the Dominoes and other bands. The event benefits Clapton’s Crossroads Centre in Antigua, a drug and alcohol education and treatment facility.
