Remember the old adage: Brother, help thyself
Remember the old adage:
Brother, help thyself
EDITOR:
The Democratic candidates both local and national have gone on a spending spree as of late. And they are using the taxpayers’ credit card to buy the votes they are purchasing.
Although the figure is overly optimistic, if they keep half of the promises they are making, the tax burden will shock most middle-class wage earners. Most tax records indicate that on average the officeholders pay less taxes than people who work for a living. They are very adept at finding or creating tax breaks for themselves!
Someone is going to have to pay for the giveaways they are promising. Mrs. Clinton has stated that “We must take from some, and give to others.” I am fairly certain who the “some” will be.
I know that making it possible to go from cradle to grave living the same lifestyle no matter what you contribute is not conducive to responding to the working class.
As I go about my daily routine, I observe people at grocery stores and pharmacies talking away on high-tech cell phones while paying for their purchase with taxpayer furnished food stamps or medical cards. I have to wonder how a family who has multiple cell phones, cable and big screen T.V. and a better-than-adequate automobile can be considered underprivileged.
I favor extending a helping hand to any needy person after he has done everything possible to help himself.

Pilgrims were not dolts
reliant on Native Americans
EDITOR:
I must take issue with your Thanks–giving Day editorial. The Pilgrims were not thanking the Native Americans on the first Thanksgiving; they were giving thanks to the Almighty. They invited the natives to join in the celebration of God, an obvious attempt to convert the “savages” to Christianity. What would cause you to think that the Pilgrims, who left Europe because of religious persecution and sailed to an unknown land at great peril, would thank the Natives and not their Creator for their survival?
It is not bigoted or racist to state that it was white men and their belief in God who originally settled the New World. The politically correct history being taught now would have us all believe that those Pilgrims were helpless dolts who would have simply perished if it were not for Squanto saving the day. Nothing could be further from the truth. In the eyes of the Pilgrims, Squanto and his teachings were a gift from God.

Fire the Taser-happy cop
EDITOR:
I could not resist writing this letter after hearing that the Taser-happy policeman in Warren was being reprimanded by only a 60-day suspension. This man should not be in law enforcement, and it causes me to question the poor judgment of the chief. Why should this policeman ever be allowed to have authority to abuse again?
It’s about time someone critiques the department when its chief himself renders such poor decisions. What an embarrassment this entire fiasco was, as it made national TV news.
