Old-fashioned Christmas display at Niles museum

NILES — Niles Historical Society is inviting the public to view the old-fashioned Christmas displays at the Ward-Thomas House and Museum, 503 Brown St., off state Route 46, during an open house scheduled from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday and Jan. 6.

Among the featured exhibits at the museum this year will be a display of Norman Rockwell figurines from a private collection owned by a society member. Six of the figurines will occupy a prominent position on the marble fireplace mantels.

In the library there will be a Shirley Temple doll and a collection of toys from the 1930s, including china tea sets, a toy stove and sewing machine, a wicker baby carriage and other items of that era.

There will be a decorated Christmas tree in the parlor, an old-fashioned Christmas card display and antique cooking utensils in the kitchen, and a display of sports and military memorabilia in the Westenfield Room.

There is no admission charged during the open house exhibits. Donations will be appreciated.
