Two held in pizza delivery robberies

AUSTINTOWN — Two men have been arrested in connection with the aggravated robberies of two pizza delivery drivers.

Both of the robberies occurred at different addresses on Woodhurst Drive. The first was on Nov. 11, when two men robbed a Pizza Hut delivery driver of $130. He had been sent to an empty townhouse.

The second was around 11 p.m. Sunday, when two men robbed a Papa John’s driver. But this time, police saw the robbery in progress as they were monitoring a drug house in the area, a police report says.

They watched two men as they concealed themselves in some bushes before the victim drove up with the pizza. He tried to deliver a pizza to an apartment, but there was no answer.

An officer saw the men leave their hiding place and confront the victim, the report says.

One of the men, later identified as Marc A. Haney, 20, of Kerrybrook Drive in Youngstown, had a handgun, the report said. The other man, later identified as Matthew Sarra, 22, of Clifton Drive in Boardman, had a knife, the report said.

Police cut the suspects off and ordered them to drop their weapons, the report said.

They are charged with two counts each of aggravated robbery, said Detective Sgt. Dan Kosco, because they confessed to the earlier robbery after their arrest Sunday. They were taken to the Mahoning County jail.

They were arraigned Monday, and a preliminary hearing is set for each in County Court at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
