Deal worked to allow sale of Beeghly; Northside protected

YOUNGSTOWN — Ohio Atty. Gen. Marc Dann said he will approve the sale of Forum Health Beeghly Medical Park in Boardman to Akron Children’s Hospital now that the original deal has been restructured to help Forum’s Northside Medical Center remain competitive.

Dann, at a 10 a.m. press conference today, said amendments to the original agreement between Forum and Akron addressed concerns he had that prohibited Forum providing certain pediatric services.

Dann’s approval clears the way for Forum to move its maternity and women’s health care center from Beeghly’s Women’s and Infants Pavilion to Northside, and thereafter for Akron Children’s to begin renovations of the Beeghly facility to meet its needs.

Akron will pay $26 million for the five buildings in the Beeghly complex and will spend between $7 and $10 million for renovations and about $5 million for equipment, said William Considine, Akron Children’s president and chief executive officer.
