Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Stephen A. Murphy has been selected as the 2007 Trooper of the Year at Canfield Patrol Post.

The selection of Murphy is in recognition of outstanding service during 2007. Fellow officers and dispatchers stationed at the Canfield Post chose Murphy based on his leadership abilities, professional ethics, courteous treatment of others, enthusiastic work attitude as well as his cooperation with supervisors, peers and the public.

Murphy is now in contention for the Warren District and State Trooper of the Year Award.

He joined the Highway Patrol in September of 2003 and was commissioned as a trooper in March of 2004, was assigned to Chardon Post and transferred to the Canfield post in April 2005.

Murphy resides in Youngstown with his wife, Leslie, and son, Ian.

Ohio State Highway Patrol Dispatcher Cheryl A. Smith has been selected as 2007 Dispatcher of the Year at the Canfield Patrol Post.

She was selected in recognition of her outstanding service during the year by fellow dispatchers, supervisors and troopers stationed at the post based on her professional ethics, leadership abilities and enthusiastic work attitude. She is respected for the courteous and fair treatment she offers everyone she contacts and has dedicated 23 years to ensuring quality service to the motoring public.

Smith is now in contention for the District and State Dispatcher of the Year Award.

She was hired at the Warren post in July of 1985 and transferred to Canfield in 1991.

She is a graduate of Poland High School and attended Youngstown State University. This is the 13th time she has earned Dispatcher of the Year at the Canfield post. She earned Warren District Dispatcher of the Year in 1991 and 2006.

Smith and her husband, Doug, reside in Poland.
