Texas A&M 38, No. 13 Texas 30

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — No secrets here. Another win over Texas probably won’t be enough to save Texas A&M coach Dennis Franchione’s job. Franchione’s likely finale at least provided a fun day for the Aggies’ faithful, a victory over the 13th-ranked Longhorns. With a seemingly inspired performance — maybe for Franchione, but more likely the pride of beating their hated rival — the Aggies (7-5, 4-4 Big 12) have consecutive victories over Texas for the first time since 1991-94 under Franchione’s predecessor, R.C. Slocum. Stephen McGee threw for a career-high 362 yards with three touchdowns and scored on a hard-driving run. Kick-holder T.J. Sanders got his only career TD when he capped A&M’s 95-yard drive with a 5-yard TD run on a fake field goal and the defense forced three turnovers (two fumbles, interception) by Texas quarterback Colt McCoy. Texas (9-3, 5-3), which after its first 0-2 conference start since 1956 had won five straight games, still has an outside shot of making it to the Big 12 championship game if 10th-ranked Oklahoma loses to Oklahoma State on Saturday. For Franchione, his satisfaction will have to come from beating Texas twice. There have been no Big 12 titles, and his 32-28 record over the past five seasons is far from what was expected when he took over in Aggieland — especially for the $2 million a year he’s scheduled to make through 2012.

Central Michigan 35, Akron 32

AKRON — Quarterback Dan LeFevour’s 1-yard touchdown run with 1:31 remaining and a 2-point conversion capped a 15-point fourth-quarter to give Central Michigan a victory over Akron on Friday and a spot in next week’s Mid-American championship game. The West Division-winning Chippewas (6-5, 5-1 MAC) face East-winning Miami (Ohio) in the title game Dec. 1. Central Michigan, down 32-20, scored on LeFevour’s 30-yard pass to Kito Poblah with 6:58 left and then on LeFevour’s run and 2-point conversion on a run by Duane Brooks. The Zips (4-7, 3-4) scored first on Bryan Williams’ 61-yard run with 6:29 left in the first quarter. Central scored on Ontario Sneed’s 5-yard run, then Akron scored three of the next four touchdowns but missed two tries for extra points. Its final score came on a 7-yard pass from Chris Jacquemain to Merce Poindexter to go up 32-20 with 8:08 left in the game. LeFevour completed 33-of-54 passes for 382 yards and rushed 16 times for 136 more yards. Antonio Brown caught 15 passes for 174 yards for the Chippewas. Jacquemain was 23-for-38 for 210 yards. Jabari Arthur rushed for 111 yards on 8 carries for the Zips.

Bowling Green 37, Toledo 10

BOWLING GREEN — Tyler Sheehan threw for three touchdowns and running back Anthony Turner threw for one and ran for another to lead Bowling Green past Toledo Friday. After Bowling Green scored on a safety, Turner threw an 11-yard pass to Freddie Barnes to complete a 16-play, 83-yard drive and give the Falcons (8-4, 6-2 Mid-American Conference) a 9-0 lead in the first quarter. Turner rushed for 104 yards on 19 carries. Sheehan was 20-for-34 for 225 yards, and two of his touchdowns went to Jermiah Kelley, including a 52-yarder. His 17-yard touchdown pass to Chris Wright in the closing seconds of the third quarter came at the end of another long drive — nine plays, 88 yards — and made it 30-10. Toledo’s Clint Cochran passed for the Rockets’ (5-7, 3-5) lone touchdown, a 37-yarder to Nick Moore. Cochran was 15-for-29 for 202 yards and three interceptions, while Moore gained 141 yards on 11 catches. Turner’s 20-yard run in the fourth closed the scoring.
