East Liverpool man faces multiple charges

POLAND — An East Liverpool man faces charges in two jurisdictions, accused of breaking into a township business and fleeing from police.

Scott Cunningham, 36, of McCoy Avenue is accused of breaking into Arnold’s Lounge in the township about 2 a.m. Friday. An alarm sounded, alerting police. Beaver and Springfield officers also responded.

They spotted shoe prints in the snow. A Springfield officer then saw a car traveling on Beard Road run the stop sign at East Calla Road at about 60 mph.

The Springfield officer then activated lights and siren, trying to get the car to stop. He followed the car, which a police report said reached about 80 mph, to the state Route 165, where it went into a ditch.

As the officer approached, a man police say was Cunningham got out of his car and was arrested. Poland Township police charged him with felony vandalism and breaking and entering. Springfield police charged him with possession of criminal tools and failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, both felonies, and cited him for reckless operation.

A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 30 in Struthers Municipal Court.
