Doctor faces additional sex charges

An investigation indicated that a city woman wrote 152 unauthorized checks totaling $43,975.

YOUNGSTOWN — A 46-year-old Columbiana County man has been indicted for the fourth time in a year on sex charges, this time relating to his work as a chiropractor with a Boardman medical facility.

Dr. Gregory S. Dew, 46, of Kelly Park Road, Fairfield Township was indicted this week on three rape charges. He was previously indicted on three other rape charges and 15 counts of gross sexual imposition.

Dawn Krueger, an assistant county prosecutor, said additional charges have been brought against Dew as additional allegations have surfaced.

In all, Dew faces six counts of rape reported by two females and 15 counts of gross sexual imposition reported by two others. He could be sentenced to as much as 75 years in prison if convicted.

Dew, who was fired from the Physicians Diagnostic and Rehabilitation Center on Trailwood Drive in Boardman after Boardman police arrested him March 15, was charged with crimes he was accused of committing between 1990 and 1992.

Those charges say he raped a girl he was coaching at the Youngstown Gymnastic Center in Boardman starting in 1990 when the girl was 15 years old.

Dew was secretly indicted in October on 15 counts of gross sexual imposition, which accused him of having sexual contact with a female victim between Jan. 1, 2005, and Dec. 31, 2005, and another female victim between Oct. 1, 2006, and Jan. 25, 2007.

Dew was indicted Tuesday on three additional rape charges accusing him of raping a female victim between May 1, 2005, and March 31, 2007, while he was working as a chiropractor at Physicians Diagnostic, Krueger said.

Dew’s cases are being heard by Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge R. Scott Krichbaum. A pretrial hearing in the cases is set for 8:30 a.m. Nov. 28, with a trial date set for Dec. 3.

In another indictment handed up this week, a 30-year-old Youngstown woman is charged in connection with $43,975 taken from Beverly Hills Floors, 374 Boardman-Poland Road in Boardman, by writing checks to herself without approval.

April M. Sabanick of East Lucius Avenue, who worked as a secretary at the business, is accused of committing the thefts between Feb. 28, 2006, and Sept. 25, 2007, according to her indictment.

After an investigation, First Place Bank determined that Sabanick wrote 152 unauthorized checks, according to a police report from the Boardman Police Department.

Sabanick admitted the thefts in a written statement to police, saying she wrote the checks to pay her bills.

She will be arraigned Dec. 4 before Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge John M. Durkin.
