Cin. Anderson 35, Ashland 20

DUBLIN — Elijah Storey ran for 201 yards and three touchdowns — his fourth 200-yard rushing game in five weeks — to lead Cincinnati Anderson to a win over Ashland in a Division II state semifinal. Quarterback Daniel Rod ran for 122 yards on 18 carries, including a 3-yard touchdown run in the second quarter that made it 14-10 and gave Anderson (12-2) their first lead. A 35-yard TD pass from Rod to Nick Truesdell just before halftime made it 21-10. Ashland quarterback Taylor Housewright was 36 of 52 for 344 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in running the Arrows’ spread offense. He also ran for a 2-yard score in the fourth to bring Ashland (12-2) to within eight. But Storey scored his third touchdown with just more than two minutes left to ensure the win.

Louisville 41, Mayfield 13

BEDFORD — Jon Minster returned the second half kickoff 89-yards for a touchdown and Neal Seaman threw for a key score later in the third quarter as Louisville beat Mayfield in a Division II semifinal. Louisville (12-2) will play Cincinnati Anderson (11-2) for the state championship on Friday. Mayfield (10-3) scored twice in the third after Seaman’s touchdown pass to narrow it to 19-13. But the Leopards turned a fake punt into a 32-yard touchdown pass from Brandon Mathie to Bob Swigert and then scored two more touchdowns in the fourth to put the game away. Mayfield (10-3) was held to just 208 yards in total offense.

DIVISION III

Sunbury Big Walnut 21, Lemon-Monroe 7

LIMA — Ethan Wetzel rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown to lead Sunbury Big Walnut to a Division III state semifinal win. The Golden Eagles (13-1) will play Newark Licking Valley (13-1) in the championship game next Friday in Canton. Lemon-Monroe (11-3) jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when Jared Ferguson capped a 13-play, 78-yard drive with an 11-yard touchdown run. The Golden Eagles responded with Wetzel’s 2-yard run to tie the game. Joe Reed recovered teammate Cory Wolfe’s fumble at the 2-yard line for a touchdown in the second quarter, and Derek Jones returned an interception 92 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to put the game away. Ferguson finished with 66 yards on 19 carries for Lemon-Monroe.

Newark Licking Valley 27,
Mentor Lake Cath. 21

MASSILLON — Josh Bailey’s 65-yard touchdown run with 21 seconds left gave Newark Licking Valley a win over Mentor Lake Catholic Saturday night in a Division III state semifinal. Randy Greenwood had two long touchdowns in the first half — a 74-yard return of a blocked field goal and then a 90-yard run on a direct snap — to put Mentor Lake Catholic (9-4) ahead 14-7 at the break. But Storm Klein scored on a 33-yard run for Licking Valley (13-1) in the third quarter. The extra point was missed, but Klein scored again on a 2-yard dive in the opening minutes of the fourth and immediately followed that up by throwing for a two-point conversion pass for a 21-14 lead. Greenwood scored on a soaring, 2-yard leap that, with the extra point, tied the game at 21-21 with 2:01 left. Lake Catholic defenders keyed on Klein on the following possession, but Bailey got the ball and broke free for the winning score. Licking Valley will play Sunbury Big Walnut in the state championship on Friday.

DIVISION V

Maria Stein Marion Local 42,

Hamler Patrick Henry 20

FINDLAY — Ben Schaefer rushed for 95 yards and 3 touchdowns to lead Maria Stein Marion Local to a win over Hamler Patrick Henry in a Division V state semifinal. The Flyers (14-0) will play Youngstown Ursuline (12-2) in the championship game next Friday in Massillon. Marcus Moellers had a 60-yard interception return for a touchdown to help the Flyers end the game with 28 unanswered points. The Patriots had two setbacks on offense. Quarterback Tom Busch missed the second half with a separated shoulder and top back Drew Kuesel (17 carries for 43 yards) suffered a leg injury and was carried off the field with five minutes to go.
