“A Grandpa for Christmas” (9 p.m., Hallmark Channel): He’s a retired show-biz veteran about to settle down, at last, in a retirement home. Then Bert O’Riley, 80, learns that his long-estranged daughter has been in a car crash and is hospitalized in intensive care. He learns something else: that he’s the instant guardian of a 10-year-old granddaughter he never knew he had. Bert is startled by this turn of events, while the child isn’t happy being stuck with an old man she had only heard her mother say bad things about. They’ve both got some catching up to do. Legendary actor Ernest Borgnine (himself age 90) stars in “A Grandpa for Christmas,” a new Hallmark Channel film. Juliette Goglia plays Becca, the little girl who gets her Christmas wish. Tracy Nelson is the daughter whose accident leads to the family’s reconciliation. Richard Libertini and Jamie Farr are also featured in this warm family film about mending the past for the holidays.
“Battlestar Galactica: Razor” (9 p.m., Sci Fi): Frustrated fans are being forced to bide their time until April for the fourth and final season of the sci-fi sensation, but at least they’ve got this stand-alone film to fill some of the void. “Razor” is a timeline-hopping prequel that tells the story of Lee Adama’s first mission as the commander of the battlestar Pegasus — and the harrowing tale of that ship’s desperate fight for survival immediately following the Cylons’ genocidal siege of the Twelve Colonies. Jam-packed with stunning visual effects and turbo-charged battle scenes, it’s a thrill ride that should please the faithful and help indoctrinate some newbies. The film features the return of Michelle Forbes as Adm. Helena Cain and a standout performance by Stephanie Chaves-Jacobsen, whose officer Kendra Shaw serves as the spine of the story.
“Toby Keith: A Classic Christmas” (9 p.m., CMT): The country music star performs holiday standards from his newest record in this hour-long special, which includes an appearance by pop singer Jewel.
“Billy Ray Cyrus: Home at Last” (9:30 p.m., CMT): What’s it like to watch your 14-year-old daughter become a tween sensation? “Billy Ray Cyrus: Home at Last” is a four-part reality series that follows Cyrus as he navigates Hollywood, a whirlwind tour, and everything that comes with being dad to Miley Cyrus, aka Hannah Montana. It might be enough to leave you with an achy-breaky heart.
