School levy on ballot
MINERAL RIDGE — The Weathersfield school board has voted to put the renewal of a 5.5-mill emergency operating levy on the March 4, 2008, ballot.
The board will ask the Trumbull County Auditor to determine the new millage rate for the measure, which was first passed in November of 2004 as an emergency measure to generate $538,168.
Laurena Ruoan, schools treasurer said she anticipates the millage will be approximately the same.
The board also approved Officer Todd Stitt of the Weathersfield Township Police Department as the district’s Resource Officer for the remainder of 2007-08 on a part-time basis. Stitt will work three days a week at $11.23 an hour.
No weapons found
BOARDMAN — Police found no weapons at the Woodrow Avenue home of a 16-year-old high school boy who fellow students said had threatened to shoot other students.
Police said they interviewed several students but none had heard a direct threat from the boy. A rumor had circulated in the school last week that the boy had planned to bring a gun to school Monday and shoot students on whose desks or lockers he had affixed Post-It notes.
While students saw the boy placing the notes, no one heard him make a threat, police said. It appears to be a rumor, they said.
Police searched the boy’s house and his father’s car, with the father’s permission, early Monday and found no weapons.

YOUNGSTOWN — The search for a fugitive turned up the wanted man and six loaded firearms at 2505 Elm Street, police said. Members of the FBI/Mahoning Valley Violent Crimes Task Force went to the two-family North Side residence looking for Scott McCleery, 28, of Lockwood Boulevard, Boardman, who was wanted on a parole violation in a drug trafficking case. Officers encountered two men and a woman who said that no one else was in the place Monday afternoon. Police, though, found McCleery hiding in a rear bedroom. Three guns were found under a mattress and three were found on top of it, police said. McCleery was taken to jail and the guns were taken to the vice squad.
