Weapon charge filed against man

WARREN — A 46-year-old Comstock Street man who said he was robbed of $3 and took a shot at the heavily armed robber has been charged himself.

Michael G. Sallaz, of 152 Comstock, faces charges of unlawful possession of a dangerous ordnance and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. He is being held in the Trumbull County Jail without bond and will be arraigned Monday in municipal court.

Police said Sallaz called police shortly before 1:30 a.m. Wednesday to report he had just shot someone outside his house and the victim was in a car with two guns.

Police reported finding a handgun in the car parked in the driveway and a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun on the kitchen floor.

Sallaz said he was sleeping on the living room couch when a man walked in holding the two guns and robbed him of $3. As the robber fled, Sallaz told police, he dropped the shotgun in the kitchen. Sallaz picked it up and fired a salvo while the robber was in the car pointing the handgun at him.

Police reported that Sallaz kept changing his story. They found the handgun inside the car and a shotgun had been fired into the interior of the car. There was no robber and no blood at the scene.
