MILTON TOWNSHIP

Trustees

Meeting Tuesday, Milton Township officials handled these matters:

Passed a motion authorizing the purchase of rear protective trunk shields for the township’s two Ford Crown Victoria cruisers. Referring to an incident earlier this month in which Austintown patrolman Ross Linert was critically injured when his cruiser was struck from behind, Police Chief Michael Saltsman said the shields are necessary to protect his officers. Trustees asked Saltsman to get a cost estimate for the equipment.

Heard about three drug-free workplace training sessions for all township employees. This is the second year the township has had such a policy, which has saved thousands of dollars in workers’ compensation premiums, noted Leni Schulz, fiscal officer.

Discussed an annual Christmas tree-lighting ceremony, set for 5:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at Victoria Park just west of the Mahoning Avenue bridge. The event will feature the Jackson-Milton High School band and choir as well as someone dressed as Santa Claus, and light refreshments will be available.

Talked about a yearly recognition dinner for township workers. The dinner, scheduled for 6 p.m. Dec. 19 at the fire station, is designed to show appreciation for the employees’ services, Trustee Sue Lemmon said.

This was the first meeting for new Trustee Harold Maynard.
