SALEM — The Quaker City Raceway is again up for sale but also plans to be open next year.
Owner Dan Swindell said Tuesday that he has trimmed the amount of property that would be sold, and the asking price.
The raceway at 10359 W. South Range Road had gone on the auction block last year with a $1 million cost but had no bidders. Then, a sale to a racer from Pennsylvania fell apart for undisclosed reasons.
Those sales were based on about 182 acres of land and buildings.
Swindell said some of the properties have been removed from the proposal. The land and property, including the track, is now being offered at a price of $850,000.
“The house and shop and other buildings do not go with the drag strip and all the other property,” he said.
Interested people can view the property on www.loopnet.com.
“There’s been quite a bit of interest” in the new proposal, Swindell said.
The track will open April 5.
Two major events are planned, one in July and one in August.
There’s a debate going on whether racing will be take place Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, or whether racing would run Friday through Sunday.
Because of climbing gasoline costs, racers may not want to bring their cars to the track on Wednesday, and then have to bring them back two nights later.
Having racing three nights in a row would allow people to leave their racing vehicles at the strip.
The Steel Valley Super Nationals are set for next June 20-22 at the raceway. Salem officials and businesses worked together last year to draw racers and spectators to the city for dinner and entertainment.
