Kin of shooter face charges
CLEVELAND (AP) — The mother and brother of the teenager who wounded four people at a school before killing himself last month have been indicted in an unrelated gunfire incident.
Prosecutor Bill Mason said a Cuyahoga County grand jury returned an indictment Monday against Lori Looney, 46, and Stephen Coon, 19, in an Oct. 8 incident that occurred in their Cleveland neighborhood two days before the Success Tech high school shooting.
Neighbors said Coon tried to intimidate them by shooting a gun into the air. Police who investigated said his mother lied about his whereabouts.
Looney was charged with obstructing justice. Her son, who has convictions for burglary, intimidation and attempted felonious assault, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm by an ex-convict.
Two days after the neighborhood shooting, Asa Coon, 14, wounded two teachers and two classmates before killing himself. Authorities said he had a juvenile court record and was upset about failing a history class.
Stephen Coon was jailed on a parole violation after the school shooting. His mother, who was arrested Oct. 16 in the neighborhood shooting, has not posted the $100,000 bond set by a judge, according to court records.
