South Range wins second; Struthers, Lakeview triumph

NORTH LIMA — The South Range High girls basketball team put 11 girls in the scoring column as it posted a 57-17 victory over Jackson-Milton Monday in the Raiders’ gymnasium.

The Raiders (2-0) rushed out to a 21-2 lead in the first quarter and held a commanding a 33-11 margin at intermission.

Autumn Carter scored eight of her 13 points in the first quarter to trigger the Raiders’ attack. MacKenzie Pfeifer added eight points while Caitlin Carter and Ellie Stoffer added seven apiece.

Courtney Little and Jillian Adams each scored three points for the Bluejays (0-1).

Struthers 75, Girard 22

STRUTHERS — Dana Mathews led the Wildcats’ balanced scoring attack with 16 points. Ashley Galbraith scored 13 points while Halle Minchin-Skook scored 12 in the Struthers opener.

Melissa Weitzman scored seven points for the Indians (0-2).

Lakeview 47, Poland 43

POLAND — Joanna Novotny scored 23 points as Lakeview won its opener.

For Poland (0-1), Michelle Benson scored 10 points and Erin Eckman had nine.

Springfield 38, Campbell 24

NEW MIDDLETOWN — The Tigers (1-0), ahead 28-24, put the game away with a 10-0 surge in the final quarter.

Ashley Davis paced the Raiders with 10 points while Melissa Huffman and Brittany Chamberlain added eight and seven respectively.

Danielle Ball led the Red Devils (0-1) with seven points and Sarah Such had six.

Niles 47, Hubbard 38

HUBBARD — The Red Dragons broke away from a 21-19 halftime lead with a 15-9 surge in the third quarter.

Nina Gabrelcik scored 21 points to pace the Red Dragons (1-0). Cara Julian led the Eagles (0-1) with nine points.

McDonald 58, Windham 41

WINDHAM — Joh’Vonnie Mosely scored 21 points and she pulled down 14 of 38 rebounds in leading the Blue Devils (2-0) to victory. Ari-Anna Williams and Emily Dolsak had 16 and 10 points, respectively.

Joanna Cline paced Windham (0-1) with 17 points.

Lisbon 58, Southern 26

SALINEVILLE — The Blue Devils (1-0) took a 22-5 lead in the first quarter, then outscored the Indians (0-1) 15-2 in the third quarter for a commanding 48-18 lead.

Emily Smith sparked Lisbon with 21 points while Megan Reynolds added 11.

United 54, Western Reserve 43

HANOVERTON — Courtney Baker led the Eagles (1-0) with 12 points. Maggie Miller scored 10.

For the Blue Devils (0-2), Claire Ferrando scored 18 points while Ellie Sanders had 12.

Southeast 43, West Branch 39

BELOIT — West Branch (0-1) built a 20-17 lead by halftime, but Southeast (1-0) went ahead 30-26 heading into the fourth quarter and held on for the win.

Alie Austin and Mya Levels scored 15 points apiece to spark the Pirates. Erikka Coontz added 10. Michelle Sosnick sparked the Warriors with 13 points.
