Police probe injuries

AUSTINTOWN — Injuries to a resident at the Meridian Arms Living Center has prompted a police investigation.

An 80-year-old woman was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center on Friday for a broken shoulder, arm, wrist, hip and thumb and a head injury. The injuries occurred at 4:30 a.m., a police report says.

The woman’s daughter told police Saturday that Meridian Arms staff called to tell her that her mother had fallen off a chair. After being treated, she was transferred to the Hospice House on Sharrott Road, Poland.

Staff there called the police, the report said.

Police are investigating because the woman’s injuries seem extensive for having fallen out of a chair, said Lt. Bob Schaeffer, Austintown’s chief of detectives.

An administrator for Meridian Arms, 650 S. Meridian Road, could not be reached to comment Monday.

The center has 38 assisted living apartments and a 50-bed nursing home.
