Beware of imports that wear American disguises

Beware of imports that
wear American disguises

EDITOR:

Lead poisoned toys, toothpaste, pet food and death-trap baby furniture. Could it be that our friends, the Chinese, are trying to force birth control on us? Maybe they’re trying to control the pet population without surgery, or is it the government officials and greedy American businessmen who are taking advantage of sub-standard products, slave labor and ignorance of the consumer they know will buy this stuff?

At the start of this school year, my wife and I spent a large sum of money on clothes for our three grandchildren. Everything we purchased was at the same store. My question: Why does this place have the word American in its name? Every article of clothing was made in Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, and several other foreign countries! The store should be named “The Asian Water Buffalo.”

Other imports are also improperly named. It should be the Toyota or Honda “Pearl Harbor.” Why would you name a Japanese vehicle “the Tacoma” or a Korean vehicle the “Santa Fe.” There’s another Japanese vehicle named the “Sequoia.” Sequoias don’t grow in Japan. They grow in California and Oregon.

To you Tundra owners, Tundra is a treeless area of arctic regions with permanently frozen sub soil. I think the BMW Holocaust or the Mercedes Hitler have a nice ring. The only foreign car that is close to being properly named is the Honda “Physic.”

It’s called trade deficit, friends. Have someone explain it to you. If you don’t like the way that American businesses are managed, don’t deal with them, but do not buy imports. Our government gives these foreign companies large tax breaks worth millions and millions. We’re paying these companies to build their factories here, with our tax dollars, while our trade deficit goes out of sight! The only people who slightly benefit from this are the people working in these factories and they will probably buy their own products. Why can’t Americans do the same and buy their own products?

To you people who go out of your way to let other people know that you’re driving an expensive import, you do not impress me in the least. You’re only showing your ignorance and disregard for other Americans.

If you won’t show yourself any respect by buying these imports, please show the flag some respect. Don’t display my flag on your foreign car.

Perhaps the last thing Canfield needs is a Wal-Mart

EDITOR:

This letter is in reaction to various articles on the proposed Wal-Mart in Canfield Township off Route 224. I number among those who are against this project, Canfield does not need this monster traffic generator to cause unwanted congestion like Boardman is suffering with and does not need the competition that will kill local businesses that are the “spirit” of the Canfield area.

But in any case, should this project be pursued, any zone change at any level should include strict limits on ingress and egress.

One new subject postscript: The voter turn out in the township in particular and the area in general in the last election was pathetic. In some cases in was less then 10 percent. Please vote — or don’t complain about bad government and wasteful spending.
