Allen’s 17 points, Packer’s 15 power OSU over Southern, 79-38


COLUMBUS (AP) — Star Allen scored 17 points and Marscilla Packer added 16 to lead No. 15 Ohio State to a 79-38 win over Southern on Monday night.

Allen, who averaged 6.3 points in her first three games, made 8 of 10 field goals.

The Buckeyes (4-0) made seven of their first nine shots, including all four 3-point attempts, for an 18-6 lead in the opening 4 minutes and then relied on defense to put the game away.

Ohio State, which also got 11 points from Jantel Lavender, shot 50.8 percent overall, while Southern (0-2) shot 27.8 percent.

Southern had no players in double figures. Courtney Scott had nine points for the Jaguars.

The Buckeyes had 21 steals, two shy of a school record. They also committed 22 turnovers.
