5 from Valley chosen to be on cancer society state board

Five Mahoning Valley residents have been chosen to help lead The American Cancer Society in its fight against cancer in Ohio.

The society has named three volunteers from Trumbull County and two from Mahoning County to its statewide board of directors. Representatives were selected for their outstanding volunteer contributions locally. They will help form the basis for the governing board that leads the society’s efforts to eliminate cancer through prevention, research and early detection.

The American Cancer Society has benefited from the decision-making of community representatives throughout its history, said Don McClure, CEO of the American Cancer Society’s Ohio Division. The organization continues to rely on strong support from its divisions in Northeast Ohio, he said.

“The strong volunteer leadership from the Northeast Region of Ohio has helped our state become one of the nation’s leaders,” he said.

Local representatives for the 2007-08 fiscal year include:

D. Jay Bice, vice-chair; Robert P. Antenucci and Dr. Robert T. Brodell, of Warren/Trumbull County chapter; Deborah M. Dashko, a registered nurse, of the Poland/Mahoning County chapter; and Dr. Robert DeMarco, of the Boardman/Mahoning County chapter.
