Youngstown Foundation
names new director
YOUNGSTOWN — Janice Strasfeld has been named The Youngstown Foundation’s new executive director. Strasfeld replaces Tom Hollern, who announced his plans to retire in December. Founded in 1918, the Youngstown Foundation is the eighth-largest community foundation in the state with assets in excess of $85 million.
“Jan is an intelligent, compassionate and energetic professional who will be a dynamic leader for the foundation,” said William R. Powell, chairman of the foundation’s distribution committee.
Strasfeld, a Liberty resident, had been vice president of the Muransky Companies. She also has served as senior vice president of the Regional Chamber, executive director of the Arthritis Foundation, director of alumni relations for Case Western Reserve University and administrator of DACAS Nursing Systems and DACAS Nursing Support Systems.
She also has served as board chairwoman of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, vice chairwoman of the Youngstown State University Housing Corp., vice president of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society, president of the Junior League of Youngstown and secretary of the Jewish Family Services Council.

YOUNGSTOWN — National Research Corp. has recognized St. Elizabeth Health Center as a 2007/08 Consumer Choice Award winner. The award identifies hospitals that consumers have chosen as having the highest quality and image in markets throughout the U.S. Winning hospitals received the highest ranking in their metropolitan statistical areas.
Sweet Dreams Bakery
opens in Canfield shops
CANFIELD — Sweet Dreams Bakery has opened in Addison Reserve, a shopping center at Shields Road and state Route 46. Bakery owners Andy and Melisa Smyczynski specialize in pies, cheesecakes, cookies and muffins. They also serve coffee and tea and have a lunch menu featuring sandwiches, wraps, soups and salads. Kutlick Realty, which is leasing space in the plaza, said it is 88 percent occupied.
Portraits2Go opens
Boardman studio
BOARDMAN — Portraits2Go, a do-it-yourself portrait studio, has opened at 60 Boardman-Canfield Road. The studio gives customers creative control over their subjects, backgrounds, props, poses and ownership of their photographic product.
Amateur photographers can then use their photos to create prints of all sizes as well as specialty gifts and memorabilia while they wait. All photographs and images belong to the hobbyist photographer, not the studio.
Diane Kane, a professional photographer who owns the studio, said she and other photographers are available to help when necessary.
Seasonal shops open
in Shenango Valley Mall
HERMITAGE, Pa. — The following seasonal shops have opened in the Shenango Valley Mall: Erwin Concessions, Mike’s Minerals, Annie’s Collectibles, Hickory Farms, Day By Day Calendar Co., Happy Feet, Puzzlemania and Nadene’s Trading Post.
