favorite from Logee’s

Giving and using green is the thing to do, even when it comes to decorating and gifts this holiday.

Logee’s, a specialist in tropical plants, offers several ways to work real plants, not silk or plastic, into your holiday decor. Many also are nice for friends and family. There’s winter jasmine with its snow-white flowers in an 8-inch decorative gift basket for $34.95 or a green 8-inch hanging plastic pot with sauce for $29.95; come spring it can go outdoors on the patio.

Orchids are easy-grow indoor plants and the new Jerry’s Pick is touted as a heavy bloomer with eight dark-maroon flowers per spike; $34.95 in a green urn.

Terrariums are suitable for home and office, and Logee’s Dutch Terrarium is like a miniature greenhouse in a glass enclosure. It fits most anywhere, measuring 7 inches tall and 6 inches wide. It sells for $34.95 without plants.

A favorite in Logee’s listing is the hanging bromeliad wreath. Bromeliads are tough plants that need little water and their colors are usually gorgeous reds to shades of green. This red-and-green bromeliad is attached to a 13-inch grapevine wreath with a touch of Spanish moss for a tropical look. In northern climates, hang it indoors, outdoors in warm southern zones. Mist the plant weekly to keep it happy and healthy for a long time. It’s $29.95.
