NEW YORK — Chris Douglas-Roberts scored a career-high 33 points and Memphis, after racing out to a big early lead, held on to beat Connecticut in the championship game of the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic. Freshman sensation Derrick Rose added a career-high 24 points for the Tigers, who opened an early 15-point lead but found themselves trailing by one at the half.

No. 7 Tennessee 89, Prairie View A&M 75

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tyler Smith scored 15 points, Chris Lofton added 14 for Tennessee in the second round of the StubHub Legends Classic. Ramar Smith added 10 points for Tennessee, which advanced to the semifinals against West Virginia on Nov. 23. The Volunteers (3-0) are 32-4 under third-year coach Bruce Pearl when scoring more than 80 points and have won 19 straight at home.

No. 16 Texas 73, UC Davis 42

AUSTIN, Texas — A.J. Abrams scored 21 points and Texas coasted to a win over UC Davis, which is playing its first season as a full-fledged Division I program. Abrams, who was scoreless in the first half of Texas’ season-opener three days earlier, found his 3-point shooting touch early and had 12 points by halftime for the Longhorns (2-0). D.J. Augustin had 10 points and 11 assists for the Longhorns and Connor Atchley scored 11 points.

Providence 67, No. 18 Arkansas 51

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Brian McKenzie scored 18 points and Geoffrey McDermott added 15, leading Providence over Arkansas at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. Providence led by 10 points late in the first half, but Arkansas closed the gap to 32-28 at halftime. But the Friars took control of the game in the second half as Arkansas struggled with miscues. The Razorbacks had 32 turnovers for the game, compared to Providence’s 20.

Women

No. 3 Maryland 75, No. 23 Notre Dame 59

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Laura Harper had 17 points and 13 rebounds, and Maryland tied a school record with 12 3-pointers, advancing to the championship game of the Preseason WNIT. Kristi Toliver scored 25 points — five 3-pointers — for Maryland (4-0), which will play fourth-ranked LSU on Sunday for the title. The 12 treys (on 20 attempts) tied the Maryland record set on Dec. 21, 2006, against UNC-Greensboro.

No. 6 Rutgers 62, Creighton 43

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Epiphanny Prince scored eight of her 12 points during a pivotal second-half run to help Rutgers. Essence Carson had 12 points and four assists, and Rashidat Junaid added 10 points for the Scarlet Knights (1-1), who used a 17-2 run to take command midway through the second half.

No. 7 North Carolina 92, Coppin State 63

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Reserve Jessica Breland scored a career-high 19 points in North Carolina’s rout. Latoya Pringle added 15 and Rashanda McCants 13 points for North Carolina (4-0) in the Women’s National Invitational Championship. Breland, who wears braces, left the game late in the second half after cutting the inside of her mouth.

No. 8 Georgia 57, Temple 51

ATHENS, Ga. — Ashley Houts had 12 points and six assists, and Georgia held Temple scoreless over the final 4:41. Angel Robinson scored 11 and Tasha Humphrey had 10 points and 13 rebounds for Georgia (3-0).

No. 19 West Virginia 81, St. Francis 29

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Yinka Sanni had 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead No. 19 West Virginia. It was the Mountaineers’ largest margin of victory in five years.
