Sarah Pelini scores 13 in Mooney’s 51-49 victory over East


YOUNGSTOWN — Sarah Pelini had 13 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two assists as the Mooney High girls basketball team held off a late rally from East to win 51-49 in a Steel Valley Conference opener on Friday.

Edna Robinson added 12 points for the Cardinals.

Brittney Taylor had 17 points, six rebounds, six steals and three assists for the Panthers, who outscored Mooney 20-13 in the fourth quarter.

WARREN — Kamela Bender and Aundrea Baldridge each scored eight points for the Raiders, who fell behind 31-16 in the first half and couldn’t recover.

Crestview 53, Western Reserve 35

BERLIN CENTER — Chelsea Bowker scored 28 points, making nine goals and 8 of 10 free throws for Crestview. Bowker also had nine rebounds for the Rebels.

Senior Amelia Shrader had 11 points for Western Reserve and also grabbed seven rebounds, as did sophomore Claire Ferrando.

Newton Falls 64, Warren JFK 35

NEWTON FALLS — Senior shooting guard Jaci Dach had 21 of her 23 game-high points in the first half of the opener.

Dach was also active on the defensive end with several steals. Danielle Clonch and Kelsey McGregor each had 10 of Newton Falls’ 42 rebounds.

Paige Klaric’s 11 points paced JFK.

Bristol 41, Cardinal 31

BRISTOLVILLE — Alyssa Giesy had 20 points and four assists to lead Bristol. Katie Pajestka added six rebounds and five steals.

Kayla Sims had 14 points and Mia Thompson scored 10 for Cardinal.
