Bluffton wins Buzz Ridl Classic game vs. Titans
Gina Brunetti and Amanda Nero had roles in their teams’ victories.
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. — The Westminster College men’s basketball team fell to Bluffton 82-79 Friday night in the first round of the 16th annual Buzz Ridl Classic at the Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.
Trailing 38-26 at halftime, the Titans took their first lead of the game at 61-59 with 9:13 remaining on a 3-pointer by senior guard Craig Hannon (Union).
The Titans then took two leads of four points, including a 69-65 margin with 4:48 remaining; however, the Beavers (1-0) took control of the game at the foul-line making eight straight down the stretch.
Junior guard David Richards (New Castle) led the Titans with 20 points, while Hannon sank 18 and junior forward/guard Chauncey Whitlow (Wilson) bucketed 12.
Allegheny 69, Bethany 68
CRESSON, Pa. — A 3-pointer by Allegheny’s Charlie Jaicks with 13 seconds left put his team in front for good, as the Gators slipped past Bethany in the first round of Mount Aloysius (Pa.) College Tournament.
Malone 85, Grove City 61
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. — Malone won on the opening night of the Geneva College Tip-Off Tournament at Metheny Field House.
Senior guard Shawn Carr (Mohawk) led Grove City with 13 points, including four three-point goals.

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Senior forward Terese Marszalek scored a career-high 26 points to lead Westminster in the first night of the Holiday Inn Classic hosted by Washington & Jefferson.
Junior guard Gina Brunetti (Mooney) scored 12 points and had a career-high 10 rebounds for the Titans.

Slippery Rock 57
CLARION, Pa. — Slippery Rock gave nationally ranked Pitt-Johnstown all it could handle before falling in the first game of the Clarion Classic.
Junior guard Amanda Nero (Lowellville) paced The Rock attack with 20 points.
