Mountaineer’s new name
puts ‘casino’ first

CHESTER, W.Va. — First it was a racetrack. Then a “racino.” Now a gambling complex in the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia is calling itself something else — casino.

Mountaineer Race Track & Gaming Resort has renamed itself Mountaineer Casino Resort & Racetrack. Spokeswoman Tamara Pettit says the change reflects newfound diversity.

Mountaineer is owned by MTR Gaming Group Inc. It opened 37 poker tables Oct. 19 and plans to add more. Another 50 games, such as blackjack and roulette, should debut by Jan. 1.

Air cargo partnership
planned with China

PITTSBURGH — Allegheny County officials say they’ve signed a letter of intent to establish an air cargo partnership with a major airport in China.

The plan is for Pittsburgh International Airport to serve as a hub for Chinese business and logistics by partnering with China’s Xi’an Xianyang International Airport.

Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato says the agreement could lead to more jobs, commerce and development in southwestern Pennsylvania.

RTI hires vice president
of strategic planning

WEATHERSFIELD — William Strome will join RTI International Metals as vice president, strategic planning and finance, effective Monday. It is a new position. Strome, 52, will be responsible for strategic planning and business development. He comes to RTI from Laurel Mountain Partners, a private equity firm were he was a principal focusing on development projects. Before joining Laurel last year, he was senior managing director at the investment banking firm of Friedman, Billings, Ramsey & Co.
