India Association's Diwali Dinner
The India Association of Greater Youngstown celebrated Diwali, the Festival of Lights, with its 30th annual dinner and program Friday night, Nov. 16, at Mr. Anthony's in Boardman.
BOARDMAN — With glistening candles, soft flowing saris embellished with jewels and festive, cultural music, the India Association of Greater Youngstown celebrated Diwali tonight at Mr. Anthony’s.
Diwali, as described in a presentation by Dr. Indira Krishna-Rao, is a five-day festival celebrated all over India. Most of India's states celebrate Diwali slightly differently but the common thread is that it’s the festival of light.
The President of the India Association of Greater Youngstown, Lalita Prabhu, said she’s been involved in the association for almost 25 years. The association celebrates Diwali with delicious Indian food, dancing and entertainment.
“It’s the equivalent of Christmas,” Prabhu said. “It’s a celebration of good over evil, light over darkness.”
