• Le Cercle Francais will hold its French Christmas celebration Dec. 15 at A La Cart, 429 Lisbon St., Canfield. The reception at 6 p.m. will be followed by a dinner of lemon chicken or stuffed pork chop at 6:30. • Ohio Cultural Alliance will hold a dinner meeting at 6 p.m. Dec. 3 at St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church, 4955 Glenwood Ave., Boardman. The speaker will be the Rev. Cosmin Antonescu, pastor of Holy Trinity Romanian Orthodox Church in Youngstown. A Romanian folk dance group from Canton will perform, and an ethnic meal will be served by members of Holy Trinity Church. The cost for the dinner is $13 for paid-up members and $18 for nonmembers. • Youngstown American Hungarian Club, 2219 Donald Ave., will host its annual Christmas party at 1 p.m. Dec. 2. Candles will be lighted for deceased members, and Christmas bulbs with their names will be placed on the tree. Anyone wishing to honor a loved one is asked to take a Christmas bulb. A buffet will be served; members are to take a casserole or dessert appropriate for the number in their party. Reservations can be made at (330) 538-9970 until Nov. 29. There will be a $5 fee for members and $7 for guests.

• Youngstown Torch Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Bresnahan Suite in Kilcawley Center on the campus of Youngstown State University, for a social, followed by dinner at 6 and a presentation on “Capitalism and Christianity: Opposed?” by Milton R. • League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown will meet at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 26 at the Austintown Library to examine immigration. The public is welcome to fill out forms for a consensus to send to the National League of Women Voters.

LIBRARY FRIENDS

• Friends of the Boardman Library has changed the day of its meeting to Monday at 9:30 am. for a social in the library community room. At 10 a.m., Jo Ann Ellis will review the book “The Greatest Generation” by Tom Brokaw. Hostesses will be Betty Decesare, Karen Jarosz, Deanna Lambert and Jan D. Noel. Reservations are being taken for the annual Christmas luncheon to be held at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 10 at the Boardman Holiday Inn. Choices for lunch are chicken francaise, beef tips or baked scrod. The cost is $16.40, and the deadline for reservations is Nov. 30. • Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church Simply Singles social will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the church, 618 Ohio Ave., McDonald. Refreshments will be provided; a monetary donation will be appreciated. The group is also collecting nonperishable food items for St. Vincent de Paul Society.

• Parents Without Partners, Portage County Chapter 600, will have a roast turkey dinner from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1 followed by a dance at 7:30 at Kent VFW 3703 Post Home, 500 VFW Parkway.
