Indictments in two homicides
YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County grand jury indicted three men on murder charges in two separate slayings.
Tora Barnette, of Upland Avenue, and Derrick Veal, of Hill Avenue, Toledo, both 19, were indicted Thursday on two counts of aggravated murder and one count of aggravated robbery with firearm specifications in the Nov. 4 death of David Clinkscale.
The first aggravated murder count alleges that Barnette and Veal killed Clinkscale with prior calculation and design, and the second alleges they purposely killed Clinkscale while committing aggravated robbery.
Clinkscale, 19, of Parkcliff Avenue, was shot in the back by more than one person in an Ohio Avenue apartment, police said.
Barnette and Veal were also indicted on a felonious assault charge with a firearm specification, alleging an attack on Raymond Brooks, also on Nov. 4. Initial police reports didn’t mention Brooks in connection with the Ohio Avenue incident.
The other homicide indictment charges Lamar Hough, 20, of South Truesdale Avenue, with murder in the death of Elmer Antonio Avilez Landaverde, who was found in his Shehy Street yard after being shot on Oct. 21.
Hough is also charged with two counts of aggravated robbery in connection with two other male victims, and with aggravated burglary at a Shehy Street house, all on Oct. 21, and with improper discharge of a firearm at or into a habitation. Firearm specifications apply to all counts.
