Bid for library work OK’d

AUSTINTOWN — Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County trustees on Wednesday accepted Murphy Contracting Co. of Youngstown’s bid of $2,460,492 to perform construction work, converting the former Giant Eagle building at Market Street and Midlothian Boulevard into a library. The project is expected to cost a total of $3,608,301. The building is structurally sound and renovations are expected to get under way next week, said Janet S. Loew, public relations director.

Another library will go up near East High Avenue and Early Road on Youngstown’s East Side. Bids for that project will open at noon Dec. 4 at the library’s main branch, 305 Wick Ave. Some emergency site work is being done before the weather turns cold, and construction could start in January, Loew predicted.
